The fifteenth annual UK Housing Awards ceremony took place last week at the Park Lane Hilton in London and one of the UK’s biggest purchasers of landlord insurance came away as the big winners.
Birmingham City Council were presented with the top prize by ex Tory Minister Michael Portillo for their work with the Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust Scheme, which is now in its second year. The scheme has already provided tenants in the Midlands city with hundreds of new homes built to exacting standards, but also provides local youngsters with apprenticeships in the building industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), Helen Collins, stated: “We were so impressed with the high calibre of the finalists in all of the categories this year, but special congratulations go to our winners, Birmingham City Council, who have demonstrated the amazing difference that building great quality, affordable homes can make to people and communities.”
In all, the CIH along with co-sponsors Inside Housing magazine, awarded prizes in 11 different categories with the winners coming from every corner of the country. The awards ceremony also highlights outstanding achievements in housing in many different areas of the country which results in landlords who care about their tenants getting the plaudits their work deserves. This year’s winners included, Stockport Homes, Soha Housing, Salix Homes, the Bromford Group and City South Manchester Housing Trust. They received their prizes in front of an audience of over 600 people as the popularity of the event proves to be ever more popular.
