New contractor chosen for bungalow scheme

The building of seven new bungalows in County Durham is now back on track after Dunelm Property Services were picked as the preferred developer and they promise the homes will be ready by the end of June.

Work actually started on the £700,000 development seven months ago but had to be stopped shortly after Christmas, when Dorin Construction went into administration.

Stephen Francis, Managing Director of Dunelm Property Services, said “We’re delighted to be working with Riverside on this project. These will be great new homes for their residents in Langley Park. Being built to Code 3 standard means the homes will be easy and cost effective to run.”

Social landlord Riverside, who have thousands of properties throughout the UK covered by landlord insurance, are working in partnership with Dunelm to provide seven bungalows at Langley Park, a beautiful picturesque village on the outskirts of Durham. The two bed bungalows will all be built to comply with enhanced environmental regulations.

The new technologies used on the homes will enable Riverside to provide more sustainable homes as well as reducing the daily running costs for the lucky tenants at a time when saving money is important to everyone. They have been designed to enhance energy efficiency which will reduce the amount of damage to the environment. The bungalows also have other eco-friendly features such as water butts and solar panels.

Langley Park is a former mining village and has good schools and local amenities. There has in recent years been an increase in new residents moving into the area, who were attracted by the new affordable housing developments taking place. The Langley Park properties will be advertised through Durham Key Options who are the local authority service who allocate social housing to those who need it most throughout County Durham.
