Combining business with home comfort

The continuing tepid state of the housing market in all areas of the UK, with the exception of London, does give opportunities for those prepared to consider alternative ways of financing their own home.

Many people are struggling to get a decent mortgage rate simply because they cannot raise enough deposit. However, lenders are looking more favourably on prospective buyers with a view to covering a house with business property insurance and there is no doubt that homeowners prepared to let out part of their home and at the same time bring in revenue do have better prospects.

Of course to do this they need to find the right kind of property, one big enough to provide their own living quarters and a flat/apartment to let. English country style house are perfect for this kind of project and can usually be split into two types, the manor house or the country cottage.

Rothschild properties in the Home Counties are a good example of the manor house style. Many schools, hospitals, museums and prisons we see around the country today are converted country houses and smaller versions of these are ideal for converting into B&Bs providing the owners with an income. Many of these houses have grand, gigantic rooms with high ceilings and delightful wooden floors. They would certainly appeal to holiday makers and can easily be converted in en suite apartments. You would need to get a landlord insurance quote before you commenced with any alterations.

Unlike the manor house style that looks rather formal, the country cottage style has a lived-in feel. Decorative, pastel coloured walls decorated with wallpapers are the signature look of this style and they often have floral or elegant stripe patterns. This style will prove very popular with tenants looking for a comfortable fully furnished apartment. Lots of pictures and decorative plates should decorate the walls and sofas should look soft and comfortable when prospective tenants are given a preview of the property. Choose simple and elegantly designed solid wood furniture to give a lived in nostalgic touch. Lamps with large lampshades or very simple chandeliers would be good for lighting.
