Magna Housing Association has held a number of drop-in events to mark National Climate Week. They have listened to suggestions from staff and tenants as well as industry experts to provide environmentally friendly atmospheres in their houses and offices, and now want to share the secrets of their success.
At its head office there was also a selection of locally sourced food on offer as well as demonstrations of a variety of energy saving devices such as plugs and low energy light bulbs in an effort to promote awareness of the programme. The aim of Climate Week is to promote a new wave of action towards creating a sustainable future, and housing associations as well as private landlords have been asked to play their part. Thousands of events took place throughout the United Kingdom with businesses, local councils, schools and charities just some of the organizations who got involved. In 2011 just under half a million people attended around 3,500 events and this year it is expected that these figures will be even higher.
Magna Housing Association’s project manager Jenni Edwards said: “Our events have been very well received and they have helped to spread the important message to both staff and tenants. These events, held by Magna, saw a great attendance which proves that there is a genuine desire to help our planet. It’s really important to Magna that we do as much as we can to limit our impact on the environment, so these events helped to show staff and tenants what they can do that makes a difference, whether at work or at home. Magna are grateful to the local organisations that supported their efforts and are looking forward to seeing what we can do for 2013.”
